The surplus 5.45x39 is stupid dirty stuff to shoot. The ak handles the dirty rounds better. Plus the ak-74 magazines feed better. I would suggest the .300 blackout. Since its basically a 7.62x39 round but, it uses standard .223/556 magazines.
